Materials surfaces and corrosion

(Dr. rer. nat. Michael Rohwerder / Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Martin Stratmann)

The lecture introduces the field of metallic corrosion. It considers pure metals and alloys, highlighting protection methods and related surface technologies. A short introduction into the physics and chemistry of surfaces and into electrochemistry is given. Fundamental thermodynamic and kinetic corrosion aspects are discussed. Typical corrosion problems are treated, and effective countermeasures are presented. An introduction into surface and coating technologies for corrosion protection is given.

The class is held as a lecture block in the winter semester on Wednesdays from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. The lecture will be announced in due time.
