Chair for Materials Science and Engineering

Guillaume Laplanche is in charge of the research group "Microstructure of materials". He investigates the relationship between processing parameters, microstructure and mechanical properties of metallic and intermetallic materials. His main scientific interest lies in the field of complex solid solutions (High-Entropy Alloys), where he works on the identification of suitable thermomechanical processing routes that allow for establishing chemically and microstructurally homogeneous single phase high-entropy alloys. These materials are then used to characterize their mechanical properties and the underlying elementary deformation mechanisms (dislocation plasticity and mechanical twinning). Guillaume Laplanche is also interested in the field of shape memory alloys with a main focus on the elementary processes of the martensitic transformation and its interaction with dislocation plasticity.
